Rath sat in the command chair of the Sabbat Martyr reviewing the events of the evening, trying to get it all down whilst the memories were fresh.
"All that worrying for naught, it seems so silly in retrospect. So much time and energy expended. It felt good to be accepted, it was a proud moment when I was allowed to wear the wings. Then, once I'd been accepted, who should turn up but Mortis, I knew he was down in the area but it was good to see a friendly face I knew, speaking of which, it appears both Whittenoom and Plumb are in the area, Whit has already been handed her wings and it seems Plumb is in the process. A drawing together of old allies, good times."
"Something I thoroughly enjoyed was later in the evening when I'd got a little bit more settled, having read all the communiques and properly established the correct comms channels, was the chance to fly a very new addition to my fleet. The Proteus, a Gallente class Strategic Cruiser, having sold the last one to an ex-colleague, I had Silicon work her magic and she was able to procure a new one at a very good price. This version had the same defence strategy as the previous model, but has the ability to warp under a cloaking field, previously something I'd only employed with Force Reconnaissance and Covert Operations vessels. It had less damage capability but this was a small price to pay."
"So we set out, Mortis, Vaden and myself, a Pilgrim, Devoter and Proteus respectively. We were set to go on a short run, only across 9 or so systems, initially we saw little traffic, we passed Milo on the way who was hunting small craft. The first noteworthy target was a Vexor class Cruiser, piloted by a hostile, Vaden and I pinned it but it had a microwarpdrive and thus was able to regain the gate. After some chasing our tails however we could find little and were preparing to move on when a Thorax class Cruiser landed in the belt I was currently occupying. It was dispatched in short order with Vaden, and Inara who'd joined us by this stage, narrowly missing being able to damage the cruiser. There was some mix up with the damage report as another pilot has previously shot the Cruiser but it didn't make a difference in the end."
"With Inara's Drake in tow we proceeded further up the pipe towards our destination but found nothing except another Drake and a Caracal hiding in a POS. On the route back we encountered a hostile fleet and whilst I supported engaging them, Mortis and Vaden disagreed. We eventually began moving back towards Goinard when we found 3 pilots who'd only just received their licenses. Unfortunately the hostile fleet was close behind us and valuing discretion we left them to it. Whilst they were distracted Inara attempted to make a break past them but was caught and destroyed only on the next gate. It added an air of disappointment to the missed kills. Shortly after this Mortis and I returned to base, easily evading the fleets on the way home thanks to the cloaking abilities our ships had."
"I have to say, I am very pleased with the Sabbat Martyr's performance and I am more than happy to be here, I enjoy going back to my roots and hunting, it has to be said, rather than waiting for my targets to jump unsuspectingly to their untimely death. However, something has to be done about these hostile pilots, by blood and by oath I swear it."
She switched the recorder off and looked out at the stars, smiling gently. This is a good home, I think we shall all benefit here. Reaching over she began tapping on the console swiftly, sending the comminques she'd been ignoring in order to savour the thrill of the hunt.
