The Waiting Game

The knife held steady against her throat, no sign of a tremor, whoever it was was well trained. She kept breathing evenly, then reached behind her slowly, so as not to alert her attacker. Painstakingly slow, she reached up then grabbed the nerve point, paralysing her attacker.

"Nice try Holli, but you need to learn to disguise your voice, or to throw it, make it seem like there is more than just yourself, and you don't count," she said the last bit slightly louder.

There was a hint of a smile in the darkness beyond the console's light then a voice spoke, seemingly coming from 3 directions. "Release my protege."

Rath smiled, used to the voice after all this time, but Holliday's eyes went wide with fear, having never heard her mentor's voice used in that way before. She reached behind her once again and tweaked the same spot she had earlier. Visibly shaking Holli turned on the spot and shouted "You knew! You fething knew you arsehole." She ran out of the command centre hurling abuse at her mentor.

Rath smiled sheepishly "Maybe I shouldn't have paralysed her. . . it may not have been the best method to show her what can happen, but, you've already gone haven't you?"

She sighed and left the room, the console quietly whirring away.

Night Cycle

Rath slipped out of her lover's embrace and pulled a light gown out of the locker beside her bunk. She padded on swift feet upto the command deck, aware of the presence following her. Slipping into her chair she curled up in the middle, drawing her knees upto her chest.

What more can I do, I thought getting here would solve all the problems, but it seems I am still under supsicion even here. I though I had left all the uncertainties behind me, the fear, the constant worry, but it seems I have just exchanged it for another type. If I am not welcome here, where do I go then, I can not, and will not, go back . . . what option do i have left. I left early because I'd had enough, it seemed like the right idea, but it appears I was wrong . . .

She sighed and half-closed her eyes, letting Goinard's light wash through the Sabbat Martyr's view port.

"Sir" a voice spoke behind her.

"I know, I shouldn't worry, but what can we do? I honestly thought we were free, I didn't think this would happen, even after all this time I'm still naive."

"Sir"

She laughed gently "Thankyou, eloquent as ever, I guess all we can do is play the waiting game."

"Sir"

She got up and began moving towards the hatch "Come on shadow, you can follow me back now."

"Sir"

Laughing, Rath left the room, once more in darkness.
